Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about NotBot, from setup to troubleshooting.
Getting Started
How does NotBot know when someone wins?
You log into Whatnot inside NotBot on your computer, and it watches your stream and picks up every auction win and giveaway automatically. Nothing extra to set up.
Do I need my phone and my computer?
Yes. Sell from your phone or iPad like you normally do. NotBot runs on your computer alongside your show, printing labels as buyers win.
What do I need to use NotBot?
A Whatnot seller account, a thermal label printer, and a Mac or Windows computer. We recommend removable labels so they peel off cleanly without leaving residue. Currently supports Whatnot only.
How fast is setup?
Under 5 minutes. Download the desktop app, connect your printer, and choose your label size. You're ready to sell.
Does it work on Mac and Windows?
Yes! Mac requires macOS 12 (Monterey) or later, and works on both Intel and Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3/M4). Windows 10 and 11 are both supported. If you're on macOS 11 (Big Sur), v1.2.6 is the last version that will run on your machine.
Printing & Labels
What printers work?
If your computer can print to it, NotBot can use it. We recommend a USB thermal printer for the best experience, but network and Bluetooth printers work too.
What label sizes can I use?
2x1", 1x3", 2x3", and 4x6". You can customize how your labels look with the Label Designer. We recommend removable labels so they peel off cleanly.
What are the three print modes?
"Every Item" prints a label for each win, great for tagging individual items. "Buyer Only" prints one label per buyer. Stick it on a box and toss their items in as they keep winning. "Every Item + Buyer" does both at once so you can tag items and sort by buyer.
How do I print a label for every item a buyer wins?
By default, NotBot is set to "Buyer Only" mode, which prints one label per buyer. To print a label for every win, open Settings and switch to "Every Item" or "Every Item + Buyer" if you want both item labels and box labels.
Do I need two printers?
Nope, you only need one printer. Some sellers use a separate printer for small labels and large ones, but you can easily swap label rolls on a single printer and NotBot works with any printer your computer can see.
Does NotBot print shipping labels?
No. NotBot prints small organization labels during your show so you can sort items by buyer as you go. You still generate your shipping labels through Whatnot or your preferred shipping software after the show, but NotBot makes that part much faster because everything is already organized.
When do labels print? Do I have to wait until after my show?
Labels print in real time as soon as someone wins. NotBot helps you organize and prep your packages while you're still live, saving you all that work after the show.
Features
How do buyer numbers work?
The first person to win gets #1, the next gets #2, and so on. If the same buyer wins again, they keep the same number the whole show. New show, numbers start over.
Can I change how my labels look?
Yes! NotBot has a Label Designer where you can move things around, change sizes, and make your labels look the way you want.
How do updates work?
NotBot updates itself automatically. You'll always have the latest version without doing anything.
Can I move NotBot to a second monitor?
Yes, you can drag the NotBot window to any display you like. One thing to keep in mind: the win notification popup always appears on your primary display, not wherever the NotBot window is. If you want the popup on a different screen, change which monitor is set as primary in your display settings.
Can I put the date or time on my labels?
Not yet. Date and time tokens are not available in the Label Designer at this time. This is something the team is aware of and may add in a future update.
Can I turn off printing for giveaways?
Not directly as a standalone toggle right now. If you switch to Buyer Only mode, giveaway printing is not included by default — only buyer labels print when a new buyer gets their number. Every Item and Every Item + Buyer modes will print for giveaways. So Buyer Only is currently your best option if you want to minimize giveaway labels.
What happens if I raid out to another channel during a show?
NotBot follows whatever page is loaded in the built-in browser, so when Whatnot redirects you to the other channel after a raid, NotBot loses track of your show. The safest thing to do is click End Show in NotBot before you raid. That closes out your show cleanly and preserves all your data. If you forget and the raid happens, your show data is still saved — just go to Show History to find it.
A buyer has a really long username and the text on their label is tiny. Is there a fix?
NotBot automatically shrinks the font to fit long usernames on the label, but it does not break single long words across lines, so a very long username with no spaces will keep getting smaller until it fits. The best workaround for now is to widen the username text element in the Label Designer so it has more room before the font starts shrinking.
Troubleshooting
Why can't my camera or microphone work inside NotBot?
NotBot is designed to run alongside your live stream, not replace your streaming device. You should still go live from your phone or iPad like you normally would. Just log into your Whatnot account inside NotBot on your computer, and it will watch your stream and pick up winners automatically.
NotBot can't find my printer. What do I do?
NotBot can only see printers that your computer has already recognized. Try printing a test page from another program first to make sure your printer is working. Then in NotBot, go to Settings > Printer and click the Refresh button. If it still doesn't appear, fully quit NotBot and reopen it. On Mac, make sure you have the official printer driver from the manufacturer installed.
Why are my labels printing crooked or misaligned?
This usually means the label size selected in NotBot doesn't match the actual labels in your printer. Double-check that the size in Settings matches your physical labels (e.g., 4x6"). You can also fine-tune the layout using the Label Designer.
The download or installation failed on Windows. What should I do?
This is almost always Windows Defender or another antivirus blocking the install. If you see a blue pop-up saying "Windows protected your PC," click "More info" then "Run anyway." If you have a third-party antivirus, check its quarantine list and mark NotBot as safe.
I'm getting a popup saying NotBot requires macOS 12. I thought it supported macOS 10.15 and newer.
Starting with v1.2.7, NotBot requires macOS 12 (Monterey) or later due to an update to the underlying framework. If you're running macOS 11 (Big Sur) or earlier, v1.2.6 is the last version that will work on your machine. You can download it from your MellowState dashboard. Upgrading to macOS 12 Monterey is free and available on most Macs from 2015 onward — check in System Preferences > Software Update.
My printer is feeding extra blank labels after each print, or labels are coming out blank.
This is almost always a calibration issue. The printer needs to detect where each label starts and ends, and when that calibration is off it feeds extra blanks or prints at the wrong position. Most thermal printers have a calibration sequence — check your printer's manual for the exact steps. After calibrating, do a test print from NotBot (Settings > Test Print) to confirm it is working.
The video in the built-in browser freezes during my show.
This is almost always caused by your laptop's display or system going to sleep mid-show. On Mac, go to System Settings > Lock Screen and set the display to never turn off, and go to System Settings > Battery > Options and enable "Prevent automatic sleeping on power adapter when display is off." On Windows, go to Settings > System > Power & Sleep and set both timeouts to Never while plugged in. Keep your laptop plugged in during shows.
The Whatnot page inside NotBot looks like the mobile version and my Auction and Giveaway tabs are missing.
This happens when the browser panel is too narrow and Whatnot switches to its mobile layout. Make the NotBot window as wide as possible, then drag the divider between the browser and dashboard panels to the left to give the browser more room. Refresh the Whatnot page after resizing. If it still looks like mobile, check your display scaling setting (Windows: Settings > Display > Scale, Mac: System Settings > Displays > Resolution). Scaling above 125% can trigger the mobile layout even when the window looks wide enough.
My print queue is stuck on Mac and labels have stopped printing.
The Mac print system occasionally gets a stuck job that needs to be cleared at the OS level. Open System Settings, go to Printers & Scanners, select your printer, and click Open Print Queue. Delete any stuck jobs. Then go back to NotBot and retry any failed labels from the print queue or reprint from the Auction History tab.
My logo is showing as a solid black rectangle on the label.
This is caused by a logo image with a transparent background. The transparency renders as black when the label is sent to the printer. Re-export your logo as an RGB PNG with a white background and re-upload it in the Logo Library. It will look identical in the designer since the labels themselves are white.
